Dolby TrueHD Reviewed

The new TrueHD surround sound format has been included in select HD DVD releases dating back to mid-April, but only now are high-def disc early adopters finally getting to listen to it, thanks to a recent firmware upgrade to the HD DVD format’s only players. High-Def Digest looks at the new format, and samples the four discs that already carry it.

LG’s iPhone copycat - Prada Phone

LG said on Thursday it will start selling next month a new mobile phone that incorporates a buttonless touch-screen resembling the much-hyped iPhone from Apple. LG’s Prada Phone is being produced in partnership with the Italian fashion brand. It is set to go on sale in late February for $US780 at mobile phone dealers and Prada stores.

Toshiba chops $100 off HD DVD player

AOL’s Engadget reported that according to alleged retail insiders, the rumored price drop on HD DVD players is about to become a reality on April 1: the HD-A2 repriced at $399 (down from $499) and the $799 HD-XA2 would also shed $100. But Amazon shows that the price cuts are already in effect. The HD-A2 is $356.99 and the HD-XA2 a cool $599.99.
